Meanwhile, Le Monde travels to the French port city of Calais to see how high-tech is being used to ease post-Brexit commerce with the UK.  SPOTLIGHT On the hypocrisy of "American democracy"   A motley crew barging into the U.S. Capitol can hardly be considered to be an attack on democracy in a country where capitalism has already systematically squeezed the rights of working people, writes Reinaldo Spitaletta in Colombian daily El Espectador. The assault on the United States Capitol by a horde of President Trump supporters revealed some of the deep-seated, internal contradictions of imperialism and the divisions that exist inside its elites, corporations and power poles. It was a crisis that illustrates the Chilean economist Manfred Max-Neef's characterization of the United States as “a country on the road to underdevelopment.” We should look beyond political events to consider, first and foremost, that in the rich tapestry of U.S. history, the one thing that wasn't actually abundant was democracy, despite painting a rosy picture of all the fantasies. What is democratic about a country dominated by a bipartisan system that excludes other political options? What is so democratic about racial exclusion, discrimination against migrants, and the repeated suppression of workers' rights in modern history, be they white, black or any other color? The U.S. power system is oligarchical. It is designed for interest groups to determine and forge laws, regardless of who is currently in the White House. The present context is a boxing ring that pits in one corner at big-money interests intent on dominating the domestic market unchallenged, currently represented by Trump, against the global power elites that want to keep expanding outwards in the other corner. Either side can dress as a Democrat or Republican at any given time. It's not the issue. The “Trumpist” side is well-trained in chauvinistic rabble-rousing, fueling xenophobia and spouting white supremacist, Nazi-style “trash-talk.” Clearly, they are not only eyeing the domestic market but scheming to make gains abroad, as they maintain a similar, overbearing relationship with other countries. Colombia is a fine example of a pseudo-colony that continues to prostate itself before America's instructions. The other side, the party of multinationals (which Noam Chomsky believes are the human institutions closest to the totalitarian vision) looks out to see how it can take over other markets, gobble up the world's natural resources and crush the workforce at home and abroad. Both sides follow the same doctrine they have imposed over 40 years to enrich a privileged minority and impoverish millions, in the United States and abroad. Inside the United States, there is a fight going on between the powerful elites. And the collision shows both sides manipulating each other's cannon-fodder. The sacrificed pawns are the masses that can be tamed, frightened, distracted with pleasures or alienated with screens and other contraptions. And, crucially, they can be induced to serve one side or the other. Behind the curtain, we have the giant corporations that quietly run things while people only see the Democrats and Republicans running for office. Who is in charge if not IT, global chains, big drug firms, armies, corporations and banks? You have their bosses, the owners of firms like Twitter, Facebook and Amazon, and magnates like Bill Gates, the Rockefellers and their ilk, and you have their representatives — people like Trump and his successor, President-elect Joe Biden. So U.S. democracy does not live up to its name, nor has it in the past, despite its constitutional amendments and loud slogans defending freedom. It has left that freedom in tatters every time it invaded a country, launched an airstrike or violated the sovereign rights of other nations. It cannot call itself a democracy because of its enduring racism, the blatant crushing of Native Americans, the oppression of women's rights, and the persecution of workers (like those protesters killed in the Haymarket Affair in 1886). What kind of democracy will massacre its own workers, or persecute artists or personalities with dissenting political views as happened in the ghastly McCarthy years? What kind of democracy will kill leaders like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, or have a president say, as the gun-slinging Theodore Roosevelt did, that "in strict confidence... I should welcome any war, for I think this country needs one." Howard Zinn relates this slight on democracy in his People's History of the United States. The Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by Trump's white supremacist and neo-nazi sympathizers showed the desperation of elite fighting for internal power. There has even been talk of another secession, showing the extent of the “empire's” degradation. Today, the United States doesn't look like one of the “banana republics” it liked to set up elsewhere, but a country showing every symptom of backwardness. — Reinaldo Spitaletta / El Espectador  HOLOFOTE

Sobre a hipocrisia da "democracia americana" Uma turma heterogênea invadindo o Capitólio dos Estados Unidos dificilmente pode ser considerada um ataque à democracia em um país onde o capitalismo já sistematicamente espremeu os direitos dos trabalhadores, escreve Reinaldo Spitaletta no diário colombiano El Espectador . O ataque ao Capitólio dos Estados Unidos por uma horda de partidários do presidente Trump revelou algumas das contradições internas e profundas do imperialismo e as divisões que existem dentro de suas elites, corporações e pólos de poder. Foi uma crise que ilustra a caracterização do economista chileno Manfred Max-Neef dos Estados Unidos como “um país a caminho do subdesenvolvimento”. O contexto atual é um ringue de boxe que coloca em um canto os interesses do big money com a intenção de dominar o mercado doméstico incontestado, atualmente representado por Trump, contra as elites do poder global que querem continuar se expandindo para fora no outro canto. Qualquer um dos lados pode se vestir como democrata ou republicano a qualquer momento. Não é o problema. O lado “Trumpista” é bem treinado em incitar a turba chauvinista, alimentando a xenofobia e divulgando a supremacia branca, uma “conversa fiada” ao estilo nazista. Claramente, eles não estão apenas de olho no mercado interno, mas planejando obter ganhos no exterior, pois mantêm uma relação semelhante e dominadora com outros países. A Colômbia é um bom exemplo de pseudo-colônia que continua a se prostar antes das instruções da América. Do outro lado, o partido das multinacionais (que Noam Chomsky acredita serem as instituições humanas mais próximas da visão totalitária) procura ver como pode dominar outros mercados, engolir os recursos naturais do mundo e esmagar a força de trabalho nacional e internacional. Ambos os lados seguem a mesma doutrina que impuseram ao longo de 40 anos para enriquecer uma minoria privilegiada e empobrecer milhões, nos Estados Unidos e no exterior. Dentro dos Estados Unidos, há uma luta acontecendo entre as poderosas elites. E a colisão mostra os dois lados manipulando a bucha de canhão um do outro. Os peões sacrificados são as massas que podem ser domadas, amedrontadas, distraídas com prazeres ou alienadas com telas e outras engenhocas. E, o mais importante, eles podem ser induzidos a servir a um lado ou ao outro. Atrás da cortina, temos as corporações gigantes que administram as coisas silenciosamente enquanto as pessoas só veem os democratas e republicanos concorrendo a cargos públicos. Quem está no comando senão TI, cadeias globais , grandes empresas farmacêuticas, exércitos, corporações e bancos? Você tem seus chefes, os proprietários de empresas como Twitter, Facebook e Amazon, e magnatas como Bill Gates, os Rockefellers e outros da mesma espécie, e você tem seus representantes - pessoas como Trump e seu sucessor, o presidente eleito Joe Biden. Que tipo de democracia massacrará seus próprios trabalhadores ou perseguirá artistas ou personalidades com visões políticas divergentes, como aconteceu nos horríveis anos de McCarthy? Que tipo de democracia matará líderes como Malcolm X e Martin Luther King, ou fará um presidente dizer, como o atirador Theodore Roosevelt fez, que "em estrita confiança ...     Really, for some time the most scientifically educated have been alerting American politicians to the fragility of the current US Democratic Political Regime. Indeed, Everything is Relative, nothing is Absolute on the Earth. 

Everything evolves for the worse or for the better socially speaking. 

Nothing can remain eternal as it is in the Organization of the American State, in the Conjuncture and in the Structure, if in its outline everything has evolved, to provoke its weakness and its obscurity. 

I suggest the mid-term, that the Army, to maintain the Union, the Unity and the Continuity of this Great Nation will have another type of DEMOCRACY, with an Economy - Capitalist Sistem  Policed by the Government and not by the market laws, of the feeding a reform on Wall Street to avoid its Implosion, which today already demonstrates this tendency.

  But at the moment, your suggestions in the document above are hyper valid. 

You have to be very strong in order to dominate the furious rebels, because a violent riot will occur and they will certainly be armed, they will have to be rejected with the weapons of the STATE. 

At this moment there are no Human Rights, what matters are the Subordinations of Rights under DUTIES with Humanity - Individual, Domestic, Patriotic, Western, Eastern, and PLANETARY DUTIES, to continue existing the American Nation.

1)     For 45 years I have dedicated myself scientifically, in the Field of Positive Sociology Science and Positive Theoretical Moral Science or Construction Science - or still known as Scientific Psychology, with a partial understanding of my dear Woman - Alfonsa Ana, who is a Theologist; with my own financial resources, largely inherited from my parents, where I do not sacrifice my dreams of Social and Moral Welfare for the Peaceful Evolution of Humanity; based on a Political Economy with Economic support of Policed Capitalism; often undermining my wife's plans to protect my community and the countries, which are partners in this reigning disharmony.

 

     On this Christmas Eve, I feel that my financial gain from renting a property, which is substantial for my livelihood will collapse in half in February 2021, due to the injustice of the Brazilian Judiciary, which is 85%, highly corrupt, but certainly I will not think that the world would be better off without me.

 

                       My hope is that an “angel” will appear who can “visit” me, in the spirit of DONATION, so that there is a condition through SCCBESME HUMANIDADE, which is a Non-Profit Association; that since 2011 I have not managed to get a Foundation to invest in its planning and projects. It is certainly - how much worse - the world would have been if Paulo Augusto Lacaz had not existed with the alternatives of New Ideas.

 

               But as George Bailey learned through his Angelic Theological encounter, we all mean more to the people around us than we imagined; we have to learn “Live for Others” and “Live without Lying”, and thus we will know how to subordinate our selfishness under our Altruism; as well as we will know how to subordinate our Personality under the Sociability where we live, fortified by our Merit (Capacity, Capability and Altruism) and overlapped using the action of our Character (Courage, Prudence and Perseverance), so that we can live better in the Kingdom of the Earth.

 

             There is no doubt that we have to stay together with the Love of Our Family and that it is subordinated under Nossa Country.

 

             Use a mask, alcohol gel, and "shake" your hand, for an old friend separated by time, keeping him two meters away. Tell someone you appreciate them, especially those who spend their holidays alone. Brighten their day by letting them know how yours is illuminated.
