Dear
Mr Barack Obama,
President
of USA
I
consulted an American Friend, Mr. Dan McKissack (https://www.facebook.com/dan.mckissack?fref=pb&hc_location=friends_tab&pnref=friends.all)
about how he thinks on TPP - and he answed:
“ Thanks
for the compliment - I always strive to be a gentleman.
At first I had a knee-jerk negative attitude towards TPP, but then became in favor because trade historically has helped nations advance and become more prosperous. Goods were traded as well as new ideas and technologies along ancient trade routes such as the Silk Road linking East to West. Columbus reached the Americas by sailing West seeking a short cut to advantage Spain in the Spice Trade.
Globalization in general and trade agreements in particular like NAFTA has resulted in a great reduction in extreme poverty especially in East Asia and China

""According to the [World Bank's] most recent estimates, in 2012, 12.7 percent of the world’s population lived at or below $1.90 a day. That’s down from 37 percent in 1990 and 44 percent in 1981"".

In the United States globalization has hollowed out the middle-class with the loss of manufacturing jobs but those jobs have been disappearing since the 1970s. The Upper Midwest, New York, and New England are called the Rust Belt for good reason as manufacturers relocated to the Southern States seeking cheaper labor, lower taxes, less restrictive regulations, and greater profits. Eventually the South lost out to cheaper labor, etc found in Mexico and Asia. Because that's what capitalistic multi-national corporations do. Manufacturing jobs returning to the United States are and will be performed by machines not humans. The "good old days" are gone - change is inevitable.

What has hurt the working/middle-class in the US has greatly helped others. "BEFORE the late 1990s China barely had a middle class. In 2000, 5m households made between $11,500 and $43,000 a year in current dollars; today 225m do. By 2020 the ranks of the Chinese middle class may well outnumber Europeans. This stunning development has boosted growth around the world and transformed China.

China, however, will soon have a huge problem as tens, if not hundreds of millions, lose their jobs to automation.

I'm
in favor of TPP because it's being written for business by business interests
and they should know more about international trade then politicians and
government bureaucrats.
As
water seeks it's own level, the free market will have to sort out how to
distribute wealth in a manner that supports the maintenance of markets
necessary to purchase the goods and services produced by capital.
Meanwhile, I advise my grandchildren to learn how to install and repair things like, plumbing, electrical wiring, air conditioners, furnaces, solar-powered energy sources, etc.

In
other words work that can't be outsourced or automated easily"
Sincerely,
Paulo Augusto Lacaz
President
