Capital Guardians,
As we observe our Nation’s 245th birthday, let us be proud of what this day means to us. On July 4, 1776, Congress declared that America was a united, free, and independent land. We are humbled in remembering the many courageous men and women who preserve, protect, and expand these liberties. We ensure the words, the ideas and the principles of the Declaration of Independence will never fade.
As you take time this weekend to reflect on our history and your contributions to our great nation, don't forget to think of our guardsmen who are currently deployed and serving around the world. Holidays spent overseas can be a little harder when separated from family.
CSM Brooks and I echo the words from Gen. Hokansen, “the National Guard represents the best of America.” Thank you for your support. Thank you for your service to the D.C. National Guard and Our Nation. A special thank you to our D.C. guardsmen working this weekend to support local authorities during Independence Day activities within the District. Please remember safety in all you do and enjoy your time with Friends and Family.
Maj. Gen. McCandless and CSM Brooks
