II - USA IMMIGRATION - 2017

USA IMMIGRATION - 2017

Dear Senator Mr. Bernie Sanders,

Recently, I studied the Lebanese and the Syrians immigration in Brazil and USA; and I found in my research that an American sociologist registered his concern in 1914, that they generate amoral behavior in society.

Please read very carefully the details of my article in the Letter to President Trump.

Sorry to have upset your point of view.

In solidarity,

Paulo Augusto Lacaz.

======================================================================

Mr. Donald J. Trump

PRESIDENT of the United States of America

The White House

1600 – Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

Washington, DC 20.500

 Subject:   IMMIGRATION.

Dear Mr. President

“What is Morally Wrong cannot be Politically Right”.

I am a Democrat (*), being inflexible in my principles, but conciliating in some Republican facts - For example: IMMIGRATION and TPP. (*) Now in 2013, I am no longer a Democrat. The passage of time made  better understand the bad character of these politicians.

I agree with 90% of Senator Mr. Bernie Sander’s ideas and suggestions, But I'm independent.

President Trump, I am in favor of your concern about Lebanese and Syrians Immigration, MAINLY NOW.

About this subject, I decided to collaborate with your actions that really deserve respect to preserve the "American People". I only hope I will not suffer any revenge for the normal cowardice of this ethnic group, which usually attacks from behind. In this case, I would like to have the support of US security system, here in Brazil and elsewhere, so as not to be killed by terrorists from the east, if my paper is discovered by them or other American fanatics who ignore the Sociological Scientific truths; referring to this ethnicity, for the own Americans Social and Moral Welfare.

I learned about this subject when I conducted research on the President of Brazil, Mr. Temer about his “feeling education” that who  is of Syrian / Lebanese origin; Whose article follows in the link - http://societocratic-political-regime.blogspot.com.br/2016/12/por-que-o-temer-so-deseja-o-mal-dos.html

To reinforce the content of this link above, there is a work by an American Sociologist in 1914, which addressed this theme, and the description of the amoral behavior of this ethnicity in American society, recently reproduced by the work of Professor Oswaldo MS Truzzi, from FGV Brazil, https://www.jstor.org/stable/27502161?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents that it will give you many "ammunition" to counter this wave, in favor of the Syrian and Lebanese Immigration, to the USA, in this world today; In this your wise decision.

Most people are hit by chance.

Everything has a limit and you had the courage to impose this limit.

 Sincerely, I wish you,

Health, with respect and fraternity

Paulo Augusto Lacaz

President

How President Trump is securing our border—without Congress’ help
At a White House briefing today, Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan announced the fourth straight month of a sharp decline in illegal immigrant apprehensions along America’s southwest border.
In September, just over 52,000 apprehensions occurred—a stunning improvement from the 144,000 in May.
Acting Commissioner Morgan: The President’s actions are working.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1181624236575776768

How did this happen? It’s not because Congress finally stepped up after decades of broken promises and inaction. Instead, President Trump combined stricter enforcement of long-neglected laws with tough negotiations between the United States and its neighbors to the south. Today, for example, Mexico is helping to address the flow of illegal caravans that had been marching unimpeded through Mexico to the U.S. border.

Part of this renewed enforcement, of course, includes building the wall.
The work is far from finished, however. The underlying cause of our country’s immigration crisis—incentives in our laws to circumvent America’s safe, legal, and fair immigration system—are still there. If Congressional Democrats continue to insist on outsourcing control of our borders to criminal smugglers and cartels, both American citizens and migrant families will suffer.

“The bottom line: We still need Congress to pass meaningful legislation to address our broken legal framework when it comes to immigration,” Acting Commissioner Morgan said. “And while Congress has failed to bring a single piece of meaningful legislation to the floor, this President and this Administration is doing exactly what he promised to the American people.”

This Labor Day the Struggle Continues

By Bernie Sanders, Medium

04 September 17

Senator Bernie Sanders. (photo: Medium)

Labor Day was established in 1894 by President Grover Cleveland, a Democrat, as a concession to the labor movement days after he used federal troops to crush a strike by railroad workers which resulted in 30 deaths and some $80 million in property damages. Workers then, and workers now, we're fighting for decent wages and working conditions and the end of human exploitation.
Today, at a time of massive income and wealth inequality and an outrageous level of corporate greed, we must never forget the struggles and ideals of those who came before us. We must continue the fight for a government and an economy that works for all, and not just the wealthy and powerful.
Labor Day is a time to remember that for hundreds of years the trade union movement in our country has led the fight for equal rights and economic and social justice. And it is a day to pledge our continuing support to protect workers’ rights which have been under fire for decades.
The reality is that over the past 40 years, the wealthiest and most powerful people in this country have rigged the economy against the American middle class, the working class, and the most vulnerable people. The result is that the very rich are getting richer while most working families are struggling.
In America today, the typical male working full-time is making about $2,100 less than he did 43 years ago, while millions of women are working two or three jobs just to cobble together enough income to pay the bills. Back in 1979, nearly 4 out of 10 private sector workers had a defined benefit pension plan that guaranteed a secure retirement after a lifetime of hard work. Today, only 13 percent do.
In 1980, CEOs made 30 times more than the average worker. Today, chief executives of the largest corporations in America make about 347 times as much as their typical employees.
Meanwhile, the wealthiest and most powerful people in this country have never had it so good. The top 0.1 percent owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent. Fifty-two percent of all new income is going to the top 1 percent. One family, the Walton family of Walmart — the worst union-busters of all — owns more wealth than the bottom 130 million Americans.
As a result, people all over this country are asking the hard questions that need to be asked:
Why is it that, despite all of the incredible gains we have made in technology and productivity, millions of Americans are working longer hours for lower wages?
Why is it that we have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major industrialized country while we have seen a 10-fold increase in the number of billionaires since the year 2000?
How does it happen that many of the new jobs being created today in America are part-time, low wage jobs?
Why is it that since 2001, over 60,000 factories have shut down in America and millions of good-paying manufacturing jobs have disappeared? Why are the new manufacturing jobs being created in this country pay in some cases half of what manufacturing jobs used to pay?
Why are we in a race to the bottom with low wage countries like China, Mexico, and Vietnam?
Why are we the only major country on earth not to guarantee health care for all or to provide paid family and medical leave?
Why have we lost our position as the best-educated country in the world and now find millions of people paying off outrageously high student debts?
Why is our infrastructure — roads, bridges, airports, levees, dams, water systems and wastewater plants, mass transit, schools and housing — crumbling and in need of major repair?
The bottom line is that there are a number of reasons as to why the middle class in this country continues to shrink, while those on top are doing phenomenally well. The most important being that we increasingly have governments, at the national, state and local levels, that are beholden to wealthy campaign contributors rather than the needs of their constituents.
Our job is to bring our people together around a progressive agenda that works for all, and not just a few. Our job is to create an economy based on human needs, not the greed of the billionaire class.
We must rebuild the American labor movement and make it easier, not harder, for workers to join unions. Forty years ago, more than a quarter of all workers belonged to a union. Today, that number has gone down to just 11 percent and in the private sector it is now less than 7 percent of Republican governors across the country have signed the anti-union legislation into law, drastically cutting labor membership in this country.
It is not a coincidence that the decline of the American middle class virtually mirrors the rapid decline in union membership. As workers lose their seat at the negotiating table, the share of national income going to middle-class workers has gone down, while the percentage of income going to the very wealthy has gone up.
The benefits of joining a union are clear. Union workers earn 27 percent more, on average than non-union workers. Over 76 percent of union workers have guaranteed defined benefit pension plans, while only 16 percent of non-union workers do. More than 82 percent of workers in unions have paid sick leave, compared to just 62 percent of non-union workers.
In order to revitalize American democracy, we must overturn Citizens United, move to public funding of elections and end voter suppression.
We must demand that the wealthy and large corporations begin paying their fair share of taxes.
We must break-up the large Wall Street financial banks and make sure that no institution in America is too big to fail.
We must raise the minimum wage to a living wage, $15 an hour, and end the unconscionable and inequitable pay gap that currently exists between male and female workers.
We must re-write our disastrous trade policies and make sure that trade agreements benefit workers and not just CEOs of large corporations.
We must rebuild our crumbling infrastructure with a $1 trillion dollar investment and create up to 15 million good-paying jobs.
We must pass a Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care system and guarantee health care as a right, not a privilege.
We must make public colleges and universities tuition free for working families so that everyone can get a higher education regardless of income.
Today, on Labor Day, we must recommit ourselves to bringing all working people together in the fight for a just and humane world.

LABOR FOR THE POLITICAL REVOLUTION

Our Revolution

Paulo Augusto,

As we enjoy an extended Labor Day weekend with friends and family, it is important to reflect on the meaning of this holiday and what it represents for the future of our country and the political revolution we are building.

This particular Labor Day marks the continuation of the assault on workers rights at the state and federal levels. The new members of the National Labor Relations Board now constitute a majority that rejects in principle the preamble of the 80-year-old statue:

"promote collective bargaining rights." And at the state level, led by right wing think tanks concluding their meeting this very week end, the assault continues on the rights of public workers.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has led the way in opposing the policies of the corporate establishment that have favored tax breaks to the detriment of the employees that built those companies. Trade deals like NAFTA, CAFTA, and permanent normal trade relations with China have hollowed out our middle class and shipped millions of jobs away from American manufacturing while degrading our environment.

While Bernie and others fight the good fight in Congress, they cannot fix these issues without a mass movement of working class Americans-- Black, Brown, and White.

NAFTA alone has cost our economy approximately one million jobs and lowered living standards for workers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It is a time we reverse the loss of jobs and re-center workers in the negotiation of our trade agreements.

The labor movement has brought Americans improved living standards including forty hour work weeks, the minimum wage and for those with bargaining rights much more. These conditions are under attack every day. Today we are fighting for fifteen bucks and a union, the right of all people to have health care and to earn decent wages without fearing one’s job being shipped overseas.

Donald Trump has promised to renegotiate NAFTA to favor American workers, but his bluster and bombast have not been matched by his actions. His administration is populated by Wall Street executives and corporate leaders that have repeatedly turned their backs on the working people who built this country.

Radical change will not come from the powers that be. In the spirit of Labor Day and the movement that brought it into being, let’s show our country that the grassroots and everyday American workers deserve better.

I am proud that Our Revolution members and our partners already have more than 100,000 petition signers.

Together, we can release our economy from the grip of the oligarchy and ensure prosperity for all.

Thank you for doing your part.

We are going to run Medicare for all like a campaign

Friends of Bernie Sanders

Paulo Augusto -

Change never happens from inside of Washington, D.C. Certainly not with this president and not with this Congress.

No, real change always comes from our communities and the grassroots. That's what the history of America is all about. It’s the story of the trade union movement, the women’s movement, the civil rights movement, the gay rights movement and it’s why we have $15 minimum wage happening all over the country.

Because when people get organized and fight for real change, the people win. But when we are silent, the powerful almost always prevail.

So in two weeks, I am going to introduce our Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care legislation. We're going to put together a grassroots movement that organizes people in all parts of this country much like we did during the presidential race.

There will be rallies, buttons, bumper stickers, shirts and most importantly people organizing in their communities across the country. This is not going to be a quick or easy fight. We'll be taking on the insurance companies, the drug companies, Wall Street and all those who make billions in profit from the current dysfunctional system. I cannot do this alone, and I need your help to fund this work:

Yes. We must join the rest of the industrialized world and guarantee health care to all as a right, not a privilege.

Today in America, despite the important advances made because of the Affordable Care Act, 29 million Americans still have no health insurance and even more are insured with outrageously high copayments and deductibles. Further, with Americans paying the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs, many cannot afford to fill the prescriptions their doctors write.

Enough is enough! I am here to tell you that a nation cannot survive morally or economically when so few have so much and so many are struggling to get by.

A great and decent nation is not one in which “survival of the fittest” reigns. It is not one in which greed is rampant. We must fight to create a nation where we care for each other, and protect the most vulnerable among us.

We cannot give tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations while people are dying because they can't afford to get to a doctor or buy the medicine they need.

We cannot allow insurance and drug companies to make obscene profits when families go broke because of outrageously high medical bills.

Our Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care legislation will change that. Not only will it guarantee health care for all people, it will save middle class families and small businesses significant sums of money. It will create a health care system designed to provide quality health care for all in a cost-effective way, not one designed to make billions for powerful special interests.

The campaign to pass Medicare-for-all, single-payer health care is going to be powered by people like you. People who believe that Americans who cannot afford health care don’t deserve to die. So that’s why I have to ask:

If we are still serious about transforming our country, if we are serious about rebuilding the middle class, we need to develop a political movement which is prepared to take on and defeat a ruling class whose greed is destroying our nation.

Through this campaign to pass Medicare for all, we are going to do something people remember decades from today.

I am sure of it. But I am just as sure that it will only happen if we are all in this fight together.

In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders

Friends of Bernie Sanders

Paulo Augusto -

I recently returned to Burlington after great events in Indianapolis and Detroit, cities that voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton, and Portsmouth, Ohio, a community that voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump.

At each stop, I met people of all backgrounds who had an enormous amount in common. Whether they voted for Clinton, Trump or me they wanted jobs that paid a living wage, health care that was affordable and the ability to send their kids to college no matter what their income was.

And with the recent events in Charlottesville weighing heavily on everyone’s minds, they want to live in a country free of racism and bigotry. Unlike the president, they know there are no "nice" Nazis.

I wanted to go to these three very different communities because our mission is to bring people together in every zip code in the country. At a time when Trump and his allies are trying to divide us up by race, religion, sexual orientation or national origin, our job is to bring people together to create an economy and a government that works for everyone, not just the 1 percent.

We recorded a short video of the trip. I hope that you’ll watch it and listen to some of the stories from the tour. Then share it with your friends on social media.

During the presidential campaign, I made it a point to stop at conservative areas like Liberty University and McDowell County, West Virginia. I did that because it is imperative that we go beyond our political comfort zones, start reaching out to people who do not agree with us on every issue and see where, if possible, we can find common ground. And believe me, there is a lot more common ground out there than the media portrays.

I can tell you definitively that people I have met of all backgrounds -- men and women, gay and straight, black, white, Latino, Asian and Native American -- are sick and tired of a government and an economy that works overtime for the rich and the powerful while ignoring the needs of working people.

Very few people that I have talked to, whether they are Democrats, Republicans or Independents, believe it makes any sense at all to give tax breaks to billionaires while throwing 23 million Americans off of health insurance or privatizing Medicare.

Most people that I have talked to, from Maine to California, believe strongly in the concept of American democracy. They disagree with the Supreme Court decision on Citizens United and do not believe that billionaires like the Koch brothers should be able to buy elections or that governors should mount massive campaigns of voter suppression -- efforts that are intentionally denying people of color, low-income people, and students the ability to participate in the political process.

And increasingly, people of all economic backgrounds understand that it is a moral abomination that in the richest country in the history of the world we remain the only developed nation on this earth that does not guarantee health care as a right to every man, woman, and child.

I encourage you to watch the video from the tour and see the conversations that took place over the past two days. You can do that here:

In Indianapolis, I joined with Chuck Jones, the former head of the Steelworkers, who stood up to Donald Trump when he lied about saving jobs at the Carrier plant in Indiana and continues to stand up for American workers. I heard T.J. Bray, a Carrier worker whose family, including five aunts and uncles, has more than 125 years of service at the company. He watched as Donald Trump promised to save all their jobs at Carrier and he watched as that promise was broken and 550 of his co-workers were laid off.

In Detroit, I joined Representative John Conyers, one of the great progressive leaders in Congress, who has repeatedly introduced legislation that would ensure health care is a right in this country.

And in Portsmouth, Ohio, I met Zach, who told the story of caring for his nearly three-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with epilepsy and cerebral palsy. Zach makes $9 an hour and he and his wife rely on Medicaid to take care of their daughter.

As you may know, in the next few weeks I’ll be introducing my Medicare-for-all bill. The campaign to pass this legislation will not be easy and it will not be quick. We will be taking on the insurance industry, the drug companies, Wall Street and all those who make billions from our dysfunctional health care system. The only way we win that struggle is when millions of Americans at the grassroots level, stand up, fight back and make it clear that in this country we believe that health care is a right, not a privilege.

The recent events I attended in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan was great. The turnouts were large and the people there were strong and beautiful. Those who came out to our rallies and town meetings know what you know and what I know. And that is that if people of all backgrounds can come together and fight for economic, social, racial and environmental justice there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

And that is our job. Stand together, fight back and create the great nation that we all know we can become.

In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders

P.S. As you know, I don’t go around asking millionaires and billionaires for money. These trips and our political revolution are funded by working people of all backgrounds chipping small amounts of money to power our movement forward. Our Revolution

Paulo Augusto,

One year ago today, Senator Bernie Sanders outlined the next steps of the political revolution. What had started as a small, seemingly isolated phenomenon quickly became much more. The movement that he inspired would continue. Our Revolution began.

Please watch a personal message from Bernie on the state of Our Revolution commemorating our first birthday:
Bernie Birthday Message

Our Revolution is powered by the largest grassroots force in history, an army of small dollar donors and volunteers ready to take our country back from the oligarchy that has controlled our future for far too long.

We still have a future to believe in. Please help grow the revolution by forwarding this email to your family and friends, ask them to sign up, and help build our progressive movement for the years to come.

This movement is greater than Bernie Sanders, or my self, or any one individual. It is about all of us working together to forge a future of promise, hope, and destiny.

Together, we are the change.

Thank you again for being a part of this revolution.

You are the force driving Our Revolution.

We are grateful to have you by our side.

Forward.
